Our natural world has dramatically changed in a relatively short amount of time and sadly become shockingly unrecognisable in many areas. There is a pressing need for change. Our actions are jeopardising the very fabric of life. We all need to play our part to leave a safe and sustainable world for future generations to come. At Kucoon, we make a commitment to do what we can to provide products that help us tread a little lighter on our beautiful but struggling planet.
OUR SUPPLIERS
Kucoon has sourced all our products from manufacturers who care about our planet and their employees. Our factories hold an SGS Certification, recognised as the global benchmark for sustainability, quality and transparency. This world leading certification body has accredited our factories as demonstrating technical competence, reliability and integrity. It requires compliance with a host of international, national, regulatory and industry standards, as well as demonstrating best practices and a work environment which respects hygiene, health and safety. It was vital for Kucoon to know our products are made in socially responsible and safe work environments, where employees receive wages 15-20% higher than the local average.
OUR SILK
Our beautiful mulberry silk is a natural fibre and is considered highly sustainable and eco-friendly. After serving its useful life, mulberry silk is fully biodegradable and compostable unlike petroleum based and synthetic fabrics that add to landfill waste of epic proportions.
The chemical process involved in mulberry silk production has a much lower carbon footprint compared to synthetic materials and conventional cotton production. The silk can also be used to help make low-impact dyes which reduces the environmental impact of the process of fabric colouring.
Our silk is also known for its durability and strength meaning, if it is treated with care, it will last longer therefore fewer natural resources are needed for continued production.
Our factory promotes the sustainability of mulberry trees by growing their own on their own farm which feed their silkworms. These are grown organically and require much less water than cotton production.
Our products are all OEKO-TEX100 labelled and certified. This means that every component of the product has been tested for toxic and harmful substances and the product is therefore harmless to human health. Visit www.oeko-tex.com/en/label-check to check our labels which you will find inside your pillowcase.
We often do not appreciate the complexity of the processes, resources and time it takes to produce the items we use but in mulberry silks case, this luxury fabric has earned our respect. Its benefits and rewards not only to you as the customer but to our planet far outweigh its higher cost. We pride ourselves in offering you the highest quality silk on the market at a fair and affordable price.
OUR PACKAGING
When looking at packaging we were overwhelmed with options, many were aesthetically beautiful and strong but costly, wasteful and didn’t contribute anymore to the safeguarding of the product. We opted for a simple yet beautiful box which is recyclable, non-toxic and plastic free.
Our postage boxes are also fully recyclable, non-toxic and plastic free so if you don’t wish to re-use, please dispose of them by the correct recycling means.
We will endeavour to try and make our products and packaging more and more sustainable. As our business continues to grow and we introduce more products for you to enjoy, we will re-visit our eco-friendly efforts on a regular basis.
